On the first Thursday of each month, Laura Clark of PlayConnect now offers a FREE support & discussion group for anyone raising children in an “alternative” family system. Alternative families might mean a single parent household; parents who are divorced, separated, or currently going through a divorce; step parents and step children; two mommies or two daddies; or other blended families. We invite you (and your children) to join us for a FREE evening of support, communication, and creative ideas on raising children in these blended environments.

This NEW group meets monthly to provide support, discussion and advocacy for all matters involving alternative families. All are welcome including parents, blended families, children, teenagers, friends, spouses and/or ex-spouses, etc.

WHEN: The first Thursday, each month. 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
WHERE: Centered, 309 N. Ashland Ave, Suite 180, Lexington, KY (map)
COST: Free

We want you to know that your children are always welcome at Centered.

Feel free to bring your little ones (or your big ones) with you to these monthly events. We will seek and offer advice on particular family life situations. Everyone who attends these meetings will have the shared goal of committing to understanding their needs as parents, as well as the individual needs of their children. You’ll be communicating and connecting with your family and others in the safe, supportive, comfortable community space at Centered. We want you to know it’s okay to reach out for help and get support from others.

There will be special guests, presentations, and thought provoking questions to help us all rethink parenting, self help, and self care. As individuals. As families. As a community. We sincerely hope you will join us, and invite your family and friends!

Can I bring my child(ren) to the Alternative Families Meetup Group?

Yes, of course! The entire family is welcome to attend. Although the studio will be closed during this time for a yoga class, your children are always welcome to play in the Kids’ Corner. The Kids’ Corner even includes a fun Arts area where we invite them to get creative!

How much does it cost?

It is 100% FREE for everyone!

Who started the Alternative Families Meetup Group?

Laura Clark came up with the idea for the Alternative Families Meetup Group after having several discussions with Lauren Higdon and Joshua Saxton on parenting advice specific to blended or “alternative” families. We decided to open up these discussions to the community for a more diverse perspective. Laura has a lot of personal and professional experience working with children and currently teaches our weekly PlayConnect class for children up to five years of age. Learn more here.
